We consider the inverse obstacle problem of identifying sound-soft plane screens. For spherical incident waves and for quite general scatterers we use the integral representation of the scattered field and a theoretical result is established in order to distinguish plane sound-soft screens from other obstacles.
The scattered field is the solution of the Helmholtz equation satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions and the Sommerfeld radiation condition. A consequence of this result is the presentation of a criterium for the location and identification of such screens. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate these results.
