Mathematical Modeling in Biomedicine

Development of mathematical and numerical models for study and computational simulations of biophysical systems. Active areas of investigation include models for the human cardiovascular system such as, blood flow under healthy and pathological conditions, infectious disease dynamics and epidemiology, antibiotic resistance and cancer.

Emphasis is given to the setup of physiologically accurate models associated with specific diseases, in close feedback with biological and physiological data, including in vivo medical images, patient-specific features and outcomes. Our research uses sophisticated multi-scale mathematical models, highly integrated with efficient algorithms for their computing and simulation, to increase understanding and control of systems in biomedicine.
