PhD and Post Doc
(a) Doctoral Programme Action (b) Postdoctoral Programme Action CEMAT's doctoral and postdoctoral programme actions attract international candidates, having currently 10 (out of 19) foreign PhD students and 7 (out of 9) foreign postdoctoral fellows. (a) CEMAT's Doctoral Programme Action provides a high-quality international environment to develop PhD studies under the supervision of CEMAT members. Candidates joining CEMAT's doctoral programme action enroll either in one the following 4 PhD programs of U Lisboa: - PhD in Computational Engineering of IST - PhD in Mathematics of FCUL - PhD in Mathematics of IST - PhD in Statistics and Stochastic Processes of IST or in one the following four international doctoral initiatives with CMU, EPFL and UT Austin: - CMU-Portugal ICTI Program in Applied Mathematics - IST-EPFL PhD in Computational and Stochastic Mathematics - Lisbon-University of Texas at Austin Ph.D. Program in Mathematics - Lisbon-University of Texas at Austin Doctoral Program in Computational and Engineering Sciences In addition, candidates may also be integrated in CEMAT's doctoral programme action via the FCT Doctoral Program LisMATH (Lisbon PhD in Mathematics, an FCT funded doctoral program which will award 9 grants/year for a 4-year period; CEMAT's students in LisMATH enroll in either the PhD in Mathematics of FCUL or the PhD in Mathematics of IST). CEMAT will look to enlarge the scope of its doctoral programme action, seeking in particular to establish new joint international doctorates (e.g., Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorates) and to establish an FCT Doctoral Program in Statistics and Applied Mathematics jointly with CEAUL and CEMAPRE (the two other major R&D units in statistics and applied mathematics in Lisbon). The two main sources for funding are FCT, through the regular program for PhD grants (Bolsas de Doutoramento, in Portuguese), and CEMAT's research projects. (b) CEMAT's Postdoctoral Programme Action provides research opportunities to promising young PhD's in: - CEMAT's main research areas and other areas of emerging strategic interest to CEMAT - Interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary areas associated to ongoing CEMAT's collaborative projects CEMAT postdoctoral fellows enjoy excellent conditions, similar to those offered to faculty members, and have no teaching duties unless it is of their interest to teach up to 4 hours a week. Presently, the two main funding sources are FCT, through the regular program for postgraduate grants (Bolsas de Pós-Doutoramento, in Portuguese), and CEMAT's research projects. PhD Students in 2014
